The Erratic Ramblings of an Extraordinarily Ordinary Person

Random thoughts on everything. Or nothing.

What’d you say?

I enjoy reviewing what the spam catcher has caught on my blog comments, it never fails to cheer me up. Most come through with embedded links to Viagra ads or similar, and they always have the most creative grammar. Check out these snippets (direct copy/paste):

“I view something genuinely particular in this site”

“Hey: thank you for using some time of producing up this info. I generally aim to more my idea of facts.”

“I actually like reading by means of and I feel this site got some genuinely utilitarian stuff on it!”

“I believe you’ll proceed posting and updating often. Searching forward to your subsequent one.”

Search forward, friends.

Under pressure

Today has been taken over by tremendous sinus pressure, a low-grade fever, and an ache in my teeth (from the sinus pressure). After being cleared on the DEA list at the drug store, I have a box of sinus medication which I am hoping kicks in very soon. Ugh.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just a quick post today as we head out the door to my in-laws. I have much to be thankful for, and encourage everyone to spend a few minutes thinking about their own thankfulness. Enjoy!

Resolution

So, the poor customer service experience at Cold Stone Creamery that prompted my complaint to corporate has resulted in:
a personal call from the store manager, where he apologized and offered to accept my coupon if I wanted to come back even though the coupon is expired, and has reprimanded and grounded (temporarily laid off) the offending employee;
an email from the regional manager, apologizing on behalf of the company;
and a new coupon for one of anything I want at any Cold Stone.

While I don’t have any plans to go back (their ice cream is just meh), I feel the company has done a fine job of apologizing and trying to appease me. I hope the employee actually learns something from this; poor customer service is such a big no-no.

River bum

Nothing to do but sit by the river and read, and wait for the sun to warm my legs.

The Mystery Shawl grows

(progress photo)

I have begun the edge for my Earth & Sky shawl, and am very happy about it. This will be a warm, cozy shawl that will be perfect for our cool autumn evenings. Need to get it finished up this weekend so I can block it and take real photos; it’s all scrunched up on the needle so it’s impossible to take a good picture.

Old to new

I recently ordered some vintage feedsack scraps on Etsy, and today I began sewing them into strips. I love the old fabric; it’s so soft and the patterns are sweet. Some of it is coarse weave and others are finer, and I think I will use unbleached muslin to separate the strips. No plans on a recipient yet, just wanted to work with the fabric.

The educated recycler

I popped into a local coffee shop to treat myself to a latte during lunch, and as I waited for my beverage I saw this little display above their garbage-recycle-compost bins:

More places should do this. Seriously – I see so many that have separate bins, but don’t tell consumers what goes in which bin, so they just toss things randomly into bins and completely void the whole point of separating trash in the first place.  You know what I like best about that display? Only the straw is actual garbage; everything else can either be recycled or composted. Hooray!

I didn’t need to worry about that stuff, though, because I got my latte in a real cup. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Magic sock

Why, after having long hair for more or less the past thirty-some years, have I just today learned about a sock bun?? What rock have I been under? (don’t answer that)

It is amazing! Smooth, light, and just two Bobby pins to keep it up (I have layers). It isn’t tight or heavy, I don’t feel like I need to keep checking it, and it was super easy. And I like how the bun is full and even, as opposed to off-center and lumpy with bits sticking out, which is my norm.

I am not going to post instructions; it’s been tuted to death online – just go over to youtube and search for sock bun. And know that I am sporting one today. I used an orphaned black tube sock, and have plenty more to choose from.
