Fatal boot error

My four year-old laptop bit the dust over the weekend. It had been ailing and I’d been trying to ferret out the problem, but corrupted Windows files brought everything to a screeching halt and there was no alternative except to start from scratch… (safe mode didn’t launch, repairs failed, no “last good configuration” to roll back to – just nothing but scrambled eggs in the hard drive)

I got most of my stuff backed up before it bit the dust but when you reinstall everything fresh there are a million updates and patches to install; it’s amazing how many software updates Microsoft puts out each year! I spent hours and hours working on it over the weekend and should be almost done; need to get a couple more pieces of software reinstalled and see how things sit. I’m pretty sure I’ve lost my QuickBooks data file, which sucks but is not the end of the world. Not sure yet about my website files, but I should be able to pull those down from my hosting company. Ugh. Not how I wanted to spend my weekend.

About wonkydonkey

You want random? You got it. Mostly knitting and gardening, with some home improvements, pets, baking, family, and the occasional bad joke thrown in for good measure. This blog is mine; it is a place where I can insist upon proper grammar or break my own rules and degrade into slang on a whim. Either way, it's still mine. I love the Internet.
