As a knitter on the move who likes to travel lightly, I don’t carry my box of notions with me – which means I rarely have a tape measure handy. When knitting socks, I knit certain parts to certain lengths, and to ensure my knitting need never be interrupted for lack of a measuring device, I mark on the back of the yarn ball band when I am at home.
Here you can see I’ve got a 2-inch measure; that’s for the ribbing at the top if this sock. I’ll do another mark for leg length below the ribbing.
(ONline SuperSocke yarn, on size 2 DPNs, in a generic sock “pattern” starting with 56 stitches. Yes, DPNs… My circulars are already occupied with a pair of socks – so I’m starting this pair solo and will transfer to the circular when I finish the yellow short socks this weekend. I figured since I was getting all crazy with the DPNs this time, I’d also do these top-down.)
