It’s coming along

We are slowly getting the house put back together; the new cabinets are up in the pantry and we’ve started loading them up with dry goods and pans. I failed miserably at putting up the crown molding, so that’s on hold for a little while. Plus, we’d need more anyway: there isn’t a good stopping place for the new molding, so what we really ought to do is put up molding around the entire kitchen to keep it from looking too piecemeal. But, since our house is not square, the corners are not lining up properly and I just don’t have the energy to deal with custom angles today. It is going to look really nice when it’s all done, though.

(crown molding fail)

We bought a sheet of MDF for the counter top and unrolled the laminate in the living room so it can warm up / relax. There’s also the toe-kick to put on the base cabinet, and a couple pieces of baseboard trim, but very soon it will be ready for full use. The dining room table is about half cleared off already and we’ve begun to recover counter space in the other half of the kitchen.

(no counter, but the cabinets are secured in place.)

Last night some friends invited us over for a wonderful home-cooked meal, which was really appreciated. We had a great time doing the grown-up “dinner party” thing; good conversation and food was exactly what we needed. Tonight I’m cozying up with some knitting, a movie on Netflix, and a cup of tea, and I’m NOT going to think about crown molding or the housework I should be doing.

About wonkydonkey

You want random? You got it. Mostly knitting and gardening, with some home improvements, pets, baking, family, and the occasional bad joke thrown in for good measure. This blog is mine; it is a place where I can insist upon proper grammar or break my own rules and degrade into slang on a whim. Either way, it's still mine. I love the Internet.
