Porch folks

Untitled by wonkydonkey

We are on our way to becoming porch folks! Our little bungalow has a full western exposure and gets blasted by afternoon sun (not to mention wind & rain); there is nary an overhang to protect the front door and no tall trees to provide shade.
We’ve long wanted a porch and have recently begun the actual construction. Right now the forms for the foundation are about half done; the ones at the far end are fully braced and level while the ones up close are still loose. The porch will have a solid foundation for a more cohesive look (we don’t want a porch that looks like an afterthought, and neither of us is a fan of lattice). Whether we will get this done in time to enjoy it before winter sets in remains to be seen. There’s a fair bit of work to this project – after the foundation is poured we have to break out that concrete stoop and dig out the plants, then frame the deck, porch walls, and roof, put on roofing shingles, put up siding, paint everything, build new stairs and a railing, and perhaps install new lights. Makes me tired just thinking about it. Wish I had a porch to rest on.

About wonkydonkey

You want random? You got it. Mostly knitting and gardening, with some home improvements, pets, baking, family, and the occasional bad joke thrown in for good measure. This blog is mine; it is a place where I can insist upon proper grammar or break my own rules and degrade into slang on a whim. Either way, it's still mine. I love the Internet.
