A first for me, for me

I’ve knit and crocheted a lot of items. Many hundreds of items. Socks, hats, baby sweaters, bags, stuffed animals and monsters, gloves, mittens and fingerless mitts, headbands, vests, leg warmers, Christmas stockings, doilies, booties, shrugs, ponchos, crowns, coasters, sweaters, cowls, scarves, cardigans, shawls, washcloths, slippers, felted bowls, and even a couple of toddler dresses. Most of the things I make are gifts, some are for charity or auctioned off as fundraisers.

But I decided to knit myself something new, something I haven’t made before.

I’ve started a wool skirt.

A cat hair-loving, static-inducing, itch-instigating, booty-emphasizing, wool skirt. In Noro. I’m hoping the bias and raised garter ridges will mask my own, er, ridges, and that it will go with the brown boots I rarely get to wear. So far, so good; I’ve knit it to the proper height and am now working around the girth. The skirt gets a ribbed waistband and elastic, so the body is just a straight rectangle knit on the bias; easy commuter knitting while the Ski Socks are in time-out.

Can’t wait to see it when you’re done!

  2. Oh that’s going to look wonderful! I really want to knit a skirt at some point, just haven’t quite got there yet!

It got heavy really quickly, and though I should have seen it coming I didn’t: it’s like knitting a blanket. lol. It’s now too heavy / bulky to take on the train, so it’s my evening project. Goes quickly, though.
